Skimmer

Every so often, I feel the need to go back and browse at my old scrapbooks, or (since the internet is a timeless capsule of my personal information) facebook posts, or blog posts, or xanga (who remembers that?!).  While shuffling out old blogs that need deleted, I found this humorous post made 2 years ago:

I have just realized that I am a skimmer. Not only do I like skimming the internet, skimming through homework, skimming through books, but I like (and only like) skim milk.

odd.

I don't know why this struck me as so funny, but it's true, and it got me thinking.  We do this with so many parts of our life!  The one I'm most guilty of is my time with God.  I feel like if I skim a chapter of scripture at night, I'm good.  Or maybe my prayer is lackluster because I'm tired...He understands...right?  Check out this verse from Job:

"I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth
More than my necessary food."

Food?!  Really?  I like food.  All sorts of food.  I spend so much more time in the kitchen concocting new recipes and eating out with friends than I do savoring His words.  Lord, help me to stop skimming the important things of life just to get by (except milk...skim milk is just so much better in my opinion;) ).  I need to live in whole with you. Amen!
